9,607 patients with metastatic RCC were identified from the National Inpatient Sample database (2008-2015) and analysed for site of metastases according to age and sex.
This analysis showed important age and sex-related differences in the site of RCC metastases. The distribution of metastases is marginally different between the sexes. Older men had lower rates of chest (thoracic) and brain metastases, while older women had lower rates of tummy (abdominal), bone and brain metastases. Age and sex should be take into consideration for the management and follow-up of patients with metastatic RCC.
