CAR can be used to indicate survival in kidney cancer patients

A recent study with Japanese patients, published in Urologic Oncology last month, provides evidence to suggest that the ratio of two proteins in the blood (C-reactive protein and albumin ratio, CAR) before surgery is an independent prognostic indicator of overall survival, cancer-specific survival and recurrence-free survival for patients with renal cell carcinoma (RCC).

Because CAR can be assessed before surgery, clinicians should this take into account for deciding on the course of treatment.
